For the past three weeks a small group of boys from Years 4 and 5 have been working alongside Mrs O'Kane and our special visitor, Mr Tom Appleton. Tom is a professional singer who with the world famous Monteverdi Choir and a guest conductor of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The project was funded by a grant from the "Friday Afternoons Project"/Snape Maltings in conjunction with Southend Boys Choir.
In their rehearsals they explored different songs from Benjamin Britten's "Friday Afternoons" song cycle and on Friday 27th at St Christopher's School the boys were joined by the other participating schools, Leigh North Street Primary School and St George's R C Primary, their friends and families PLUS members of the Southend Boys Choir (many ex- Lourdes pupils) in an open workshop/ performance.
It was a great opportunity for the children to sing alongside older boys and we hope it has inspired some of them to try out and experience singing in the world renowned, Southend Boys Choir.
If you would like more information about the Choir and their associate choirs, the Girls Choir and the Training choir, please speak to Mrs O'Kane or go to www.southendchoirs.org.uk
